Alles über die A380 incl. Bilder

And the Winner is: SYD

First superjumbo service ... and the winner is Sydney

Steve Creedy, Aviation writer June 06, 2006

SYDNEY has beaten London to become the world's first destination for a scheduled service by one of the new double-decker Airbus A380 superjumbo planes.

Singapore Airlines expects to take delivery of the first commercial aircraft in November and to begin flights to Sydney in December.
The airline confirmed yesterday its first flight would be into Sydney and said Singapore-Sydney would be its first route when scheduled services started, probably in late December.
"We've decided on Sydney for two reasons," airline spokesman Stephen Forshaw said. "Firstly, the aircraft flight time is shorter than London. And the crewing requirements are lower than for London - we require a double crew to do London flights and the turnaround time for crew is longer for London than it is for Sydney."

Airbus maintains target date for A380 certification and first delivery by year end, but announces shift in the production programme
13 June 2006

Airbus has informed its customers today that a review of the A380 programme has shown that the delivery schedule will undergo a shift of six to seven months due to production ramp-up issues. In parallel, Airbus confirmed to its customers the satisfactory progress of the flight test campaign, which is expected to lead to certification and delivery of the first aircraft by the end of the year. The shift in the production ramp-up is likely to limit aircraft delivery to nine in 2007.

The new delays are caused by industrial issues only. They are mainly traceable to bottlenecks formed in the definition, manufacturing and installation of electrical systems and resulting harnesses.

As testing and development advances, as well as customisation specifications from airlines are integrated, modifications of electrical systems and reworks have been necessary at section level, progressively disturbing the final assembly flow. A new organisation for the equipment of sections and a revised pacing of transfer to the final assembly line have been put in place, to absorb past inventory build-up and to deal with further mitigating factors. As a result, there are currently 15 aircraft already assembled, including the static and fatigue test frames, while production of sections for aircraft serial number 36 has started.

A recent programme review has led Airbus to the conclusion that 2007 deliveries will likely be limited to nine, and that a shortfall of five to nine aircraft deliveries in 2008 and around five aircraft in 2009 could be expected, compared to initial delivery planning. The review also concluded that further actions are required to secure a ramp-up recovery in 2008 and 2009.

Today, Airbus President and CEO Gustav Humbert has ordered the immediate setting up and implementation of such a recovery action plan. Airbus also announced to regularly update airlines and all stakeholders on the progress of the recovery action plan.

Airbus is fully aware of the burden this industrial issue represents for the airlines who are anxious to begin operating the A380. Airbus is working with its customers to facilitate their operations, while ensuring a successful entry into service.

Airbus continues to be very satisfied by the performance of the A380. The aircraft handles extremely well and airline pilots who have already flown the aircraft, report enthusiastically about it. Overall, the aircraft have performed more than 1,400 flight hours in over 430 flights and 950 take-offs. Results are as predicted. All the tests performed, including at airports, indicate that the A380 will meet or exceed the expectations. Also first results of the cabin tests are encouraging. Since the first flight of the first A380 in Toulouse on 27th April 2005, four more aircraft have taken to the air. The first two are heavily involved in the flight test campaign, two more are used for cabin testing and the fifth one is currently undergoing customisation and cabin furnishing in Hamburg to be ready for first aircraft delivery at the end of 2006.

Pictures: First images of Airbus's Super First Class suites concept for A380
By Max Kingsley-Jones in Toulouse

Airbus has unveiled a novel “super first class” concept on its revamped A380 cabin mock-up in Toulouse which could debut on the aircraft with some of the early operators.
The forward upper deck features three completely enclosed suites down each side, with a large aisle that is occupied by two sofas and tables. Each suite contains a reclining chair and sofa – the latter doubling up as a bed.
The suites have a sliding doors and are large enough to accommodate several people. They are sized so that the could be installed in a three abreast configuration on the upper deck of an A380 or the main deck of other Airbus widebodies. The side panel does not rise to the top of the cabin roof panel to ensure that the air circulation system can still function satisfactorily.
“This concept is designed to be able to be put into production,” says A380 senior marketing analyst Corrin Higgs, who does not rule out the possibility that something similar could be seen on the A380s of one of the early customers, which include Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Qantas.
The forward section of the upper deck adjacent to the staircase is also utilised, with a break-out zone featuring a sofa on one side and a “kingsize bathroom” on the other which could incorporate a shower unit.
Downstairs in the forward section of the main deck is what Higgs calls a “business class of the future” design incorporating pod-type lie-flat seats in a six abreast configuration.

Oh, oh! Also langsam frag ich mich, ob Airbus nicht gut beraten ist das know how (welches eigentlich?) nach China zu verkaufen.

Airbus 'disagrees' with ICAO 'unreality' on A380 wake vortex
...

Electrical systems at the heart of A380 delivery slips Electrical systems at the heart of A380 delivery slips
The knock-on effect of the A380 slip will be felt on the delivery schedule for production through 2007, 2008 and 2009, and result in a delivery shortfall of between 22 and 31 aircraft (see table below).
Although Singapore Airlines is still due to receive its first aircraft before year-end, service entry has now slipped into 2007 and deliveries of the remainder of its original batch will be delayed well into next year. With Airbus expecting to deliver only nine of the 25 aircraft expected next year, the other early customers Emirates and Qantas will not receive their first aircraft until the fourth quarter of next year – at least six months late.

T
he full impact on 2008 and 2009 deliveries is yet to be established, and Airbus says the new delivery forecast it has released for those two years is the worse-case scenario. Significantly, although deliveries to China Southern Airlines have slipped, it will still receive its first A380 in time for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
“We don’t see any impact on our delivery slots beyond 2009,” says Airbus president and chief executive Gustav Humbert.
The delay resulted from a production bottleneck created by the “huge workload” to integrate electrical systems and harnesses into the A380, says Humbert, who adds that a recovery action plan has started: “Some of the actions have now been implemented and some will be more or less defined in the next four weeks and will be effective from July.”
Didier Lux, executive vice-president of quality at Airbus, says that much of the blame lies with late specification changes for cabin equipment: “Airbus has been ‘trapped’ by late modifications. The [seats and in-flight entertainment] definition has not been frozen until very late in the process.”

Lufthansa: Spatenstich für A-380-Halle in Frankfurt

Lufthansa Technik investiert 150 Mill.

A380 achieved another step on its path toward certification by year end when all 16 emergency slides were deployed simultaneously using only the aircraft's battery power. The test was conducted as part of the overall EASA and FAA certification program. According to Airbus, this is the largest number of evacuation slides ever inflated at the same time in any passenger aircraft.
