United Computer Problem Delays Flights

CHICAGO -- Dozens of United Airlines flights were delayed Monday morning when the carrier's reservations computer failed, the airline said.

The computer breakdown affected more than 50 domestic flights, mostly those flying into or out of Chicago and Denver, United spokesman Jeff Green said. Delays stretched to as long as 70 minutes, he said.

The computer shut down for 45 minutes, United said. The airline attributed the breakdown to a server connection problem.

Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and Denver International Airport are two of five main hubs for UAL Corp.'s United, which has its headquarters adjacent to O'Hare in Elk Grove Village, Ill.

Just read on NZs web-site, that a B744 will be leased from Atlas Air and will provide twice weekly round the world freighter service, this will replace the LH MD11 freighter code share. Route will be Auckland, Melbourne, Shanghai, Frankfurt, Chicago und Auckland. Flight will depart AKL on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Service will start at the end of March 2005. Looks like it will be in NZ colours also.

Also NZ also confirmed today that AKL-SFO will be the first route to offer the re-fitted B744, followed by selected AKL-LAX routes then LHR will follow. SFO is expected to be by August with NZ1 and NZ2 by the end of the year (AKL-LAX-LHR).

Also NZ announced its new names for its new cabins on the B744s and B772ERs. The names are "Business Primier", "Pacific Premium Economy" and "Pacific Economy"

Die Restlichen 4 Busse kommen im Oktober, November und Dezember. Hoffentlich springt da auch mal fuer MUC was raus... ::)

Austrian Airlines verbucht Passagierrückgang im Februar

Die österreichische Fluggesellschaft Austrian Airlines AG musste im Februar einen Rückgang der Passagierzahlen hinnehmen.
Wie die Fluglinie am Dienstag bekannt gab, wurden im Berichtsmonat 568.000 Passagiere befördert, was im Vergleich zum Vorjahresmonat einem Rückgang um 8,5 Prozent entspricht. Auf kalenderbereinigter Basis lag der Rückgang bei 5,1 Prozent.

Die Zahl der angebotenen Sitzkilometer verringerte sich im Vorjahresvergleich um 2,2 Prozent auf 1,98 Milliarden, während man bei den verkauften Sitzkilometern einen Rückgang von 7,0 Prozent auf 1,35 Milliarden hinnehmen musste. Der Sitzladefaktor verringerte sich im Vorjahresvergleich um 2,3 Prozentpunkte auf 68,2 Prozent.

Ich meinte das schon so das die eine oder andere B747 viellleicht fuer MUC frei werden koennte ;) Aber gegen einen zusaetzlichen Flug mit nem Airbus haette ich natuerlich auch nix einzuwenden.... ;D

Between March 28th until July 28th RG will be flying GIG-LIS flight 3x weekly with the B763.

Current RG operations to LIS are all funneled through GRU with the B772.

GIG-LIS will depart Rio at 20h35 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 19h40 on Saturdays. The flight departs LIS at 10h45 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

TAP, now also a STAR member, has a daily A343 service to GIG and fully codeshares with RG.

Good to see Varig expanding out of GIG.

Sieht zwar nicht schlecht aus, trotzdem finde ich die alte Bemalung irgendwie eleganter. ::)

US Airways

Stichtag verschoben

US Airways hat erneut den Zeitpunkt, zu dem sie den Gläubigerschutz nach Chapter 11 zu verlassen gedenkt, verschoben. Jetzt möchte sie spätestens bis zum 31. August das Konkursverfahren beenden. Begründet wurde dieser Schritt mit einem "Übermaß an Vorsicht" sowie der Möglichkeit, dass "unvorhersehbare Entwicklungen" auftreten könnten.

Austrian Airlines erweitert Streckennetz
Austrian Airlines hat das Streckennetz erweitert und die Flugfrequenzen aufgestockt. So fliegt der österreichische Carrier neuerdings die drittgrößte bulgarische Stadt Varna viermal die Woche (montags, mittwochs, donnerstags und sonntags) an.

Ab 27. Mai wird es noch eine fünfte Frequenz am Freitag geben. Als neue Destination ist zudem Basel hinzugekommen, das die Airline täglich anfliegt.

St. Petersburg wird nun jeden Tag außer am Montag bedient. Ein zusätzliche Verbindung gibt es auch nach Rostow. Die russische Stadt wird montags, mittwochs, freitags und jetzt auch sonntags angeflogen.

Auch in die Hauptstadt Aserbeidschans, Baku, gibt es jetzt einen Sonntagsflug - fünf Verbindungen pro Woche sind es insgesamt. Die chinesische Metropole Schanghai wird von Austrian Airlines jetzt ebenso am Sonntag (bislang nur am Montag, Mittwoch und Freitag) angesteuert. Ab 1. Mai kommt noch ein fünfter Dienst - am Samstag - hinzu

Tja das wäre ab MUC auch schön

Effective 13th September 05 SAA will operate daily on the CPT-FRA route. Initially the flight was planned to go daily on 1st May 2005 but due to a shortage in equipment due to delivery delays of the remaining A340-600 the introduction of daily flights has to be delayed.

The northbound flight (SA262) will operate as a daytime flight. Departure in CPT will be 7.35 am with an arrival time of 7.45 pm in Frankfurt. The southbound flight (SA263) leaves Frankfurt at 5.40 pm with an arrival of 5.35 am in Cape Town. The southbound flight is operated with the equipment arriving in the morning (5.55 am) from JNB. The southbound JNB flight (SA261) will have a new departure time of 9.45 pm (instead of 8.45 pm in order to have enough time to turn around the SA262 CPT equipment).

SAA has chosen this combination of daytime (CPT-FRA)/nighttime flights (JNB-FRA,FRA-CPT,FRA-JNB) under the assumption that travelers to/from CPT rather accept a daytime flight as CPT is primarily a destination for the leisure market while JNB caters for high yield business traffic. With this schedule SAA only needs three aircraft to operate both the CPT-FRA and JNB-FRA routes daily while with nighttime flights four aircraft would be needed which helps lowering the already very low break even load factors for the 346 on both routes even more (and, of course, helps saving quite a lot of money for parking fees at FRA).
