Lohnerhoehungen verzichten. Die rund 2.000 Piloten muessen sich auf
mehrere Nullrunden einstellen. Ausserdem sollen die Ticketpreise
steigen.

Air Canada, Pilots Reach Agreement to Resolve Boeing Order Issues

Air Canada on Friday announced it has reached an agreement with its pilots that could see its order for Boeing 777s and 787s back on.

In a statement, the airline said it has reached an agreement with the Air Canada Pilots Association (ACPA) to submit outstanding issues related to the order to binding arbitration. "Subject to a satisfactory outcome," the airline says, it will go back to Boeing to re-order the aircraft.

Air Canada in April announced it had ordered 18 Boeing 777s, plus
purchase rights for 18 more, and firm orders for 14 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. But the airline cancelled the order in June when its pilots failed to ratify the tentative agreement on work terms for the new aircraft.

At the time of the order cancellation, it was believed the down vote was due to continued discontent among pre-merger Air Canada pilots who were unhappy about how the pilots group from Canadian Airlines was merged into Air Canada's. ACPA on Friday announced that these issues will be addressed through mediation.

Schade, es bleibt also bei den Amigurken statt Airbussen! :(

Malaysian carriers to trim capacity during Ramadan

AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and MAS parent PMB took a historic first step toward rationalizing domestic capacity with the announcement in Kuala Lumpur Monday that the two carriers will cooperate to reduce domestic capacity between Oct. 1 and Oct. 15 to address "low travel demand" during the Ramadan period. "We hope that this is a start for greater cooperation which will mutually benefit MAS and AirAsia in reaching our respective objectives. We applaud PMB and MAS for taking the first step towards a healthy and responsible cooperation to resolve excess capacity and unproductive competition during a period of exceptionally low traffic demand," AirAsia Berhad Group CEO Tony Fernandes said. "Malaysia Airlines welcomes cooperation with AirAsia," MAS Executive Director Tengku Azmil Zahruddin Raja Abdul Aziz said. "Both airlines have agreed to a joint effort to address the low demand during Ramadan period whilst conserving fuel resources. Despite the limited cutback on both MAS and AirAsia domestic routes, we believe that the move will not materially affect the convenience of passengers carried on both airlines."

Mesaba, Pinnacle Taking Aircraft Out of Service

Bye bye to Mesaba's Avros
Two regional affiliates of Northwest Airlines, Mesaba Aviation and Pinnacle Airlines, have announced that Northwest has decided to remove some 50 regional jets from service. The removals will include the entire 35-aircraft fleet of Mesaba's Avro RJs.

In a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing, Mesaba parent company MAIR Holdings announced that Northwest's winter schedule sees nine Avro RJs removed from service -- in violation of the company's contract with the bankrupt major. Northwest also has served notice to terminate leases on the entire 35-aircraft Avro fleet effective Dec. 20. Later this year, Mesaba will begin operating the smaller Bombardier CRJ regional jet.

Meanwhile, Pinnacle Airlines says it has received a request from Northwest to remove 15 of its 139 Bombardier CRJs from service. The airline says it expects to operate 11 percent fewer block hours accordingly and will seek to lower staff levels through attrition and voluntary staff leave, but possibly also layoffs.
