Vietnam Airlines opens HCM City-Nagoya direct air route
dot.gif
Vietnam Airlines will launch its direct air route from Ho Chi Minh City to Japan’s Nagoya city at 7:30pm on Thursday.

The airline will conduct three flights every week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday using B767-300ER aircraft. This is the fifth direct air route to Japan conducted by Vietnam Airlines and is the first direct flight to Chubu - Japan’s third largest economic region just after Kanto in Tokyo and Kansai in Osaka.

Currently, Vietnam Airlines has three direct air routes from HCM City and Hanoi to three large Japanese cities, namely Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.

The opening of the air route will meet the demand from the increasing number of Japanese travellers and help boost tourism and economic development while promoting cultural exchanges between Japan and Vietnam and other Indochinese countries. The fifth air route will increase the number of flights to Japan, which are conducted by Vietnamese Airlines, to 24 per week.

Little comments: Santos Dumont probably will be bigger than REC in two months (july is high season on Northeast), Confins will be ranked 10 in three months, same time when Vitoria and Belem will pass Confins. Floripa become top 12 in two months. BSB numbers for june was ridicullous and seems that Infraero could correct numbers for july. SAO airport are expected to handle 30 million pax this year, RIO about 12 million, BSB 9 million (only 0,10% growth over 2004 numbers for the first six months)

Ach so, noch was. Was ist mit dem alten Airport. Wird der weiter betrieben oder platt gemacht?

Laut offiziellen Dokumenten wird in Nagoya außer der Komaki AFB (IATA: NKM) nur noch der Flughafen "Chubu Centrair International" (IATA: NGO = auch für die Metropolitan Area / IATA: RJNA) betrieben.

Einer AEA-Untersuchung aller europaeischen Airlines auf ihre
Zuverlaessigkeit beim Gepaecktransport zufolge verschwinden nirgendwo
viele Konkurrenten in grossen Heimatmaerkten viele Passagiere ohne
aufgegebenes Gepaeck befoerderten, waehrend KLM zu 80 %
Transitpassagiere habe.

Singapore's Changi Airport has at least one gate ready for the A380, although the aircraft is still more than 12 months away from first delivery. Airport operator CAAS announced that it has converted gate F31 and an existing hold room in Terminal 2 into an A380-compatible gate, enlarging it to provide more holding and circulation space. The upgrade is the first of a number that will be done at Terminals 1 and 2. The gates also will feature a new third boarding aerobridge arm for passengers on the A380's upper-deck. CAAS is spending $60 million to modify five gates at T1 and six at T2 plus the runway and taxiway work required to accommodate the aircraft. When the new T3 opens in 2008, there will be a total of 19 gates that can serve A380 flights.

ACI Passenger and Freight Forecast Suggests Shortage of Airport Capacity

The Airports Council International (ACI) yesterday announced its passenger and freight traffic forecasts for the next 15 years and warned that the industry needs to be concerned about a shortage of airport capacity.

Over 7.4 billion passengers will travel by air in 2020 according to (ACI) traffic forecasts for 2005-2020. Passenger traffic will grow by more than four percent per year through 2020 and air freight tonnage will increase by 5.4 percent.

The worldwide forecasts are based on data collected in early 2005 from 273 ACI member airports, which represent 60 percent of global passenger traffic, from all regions. ACI says its forecast suggests that by 2020 passenger demand will surpass current available airport infrastructure by about one billion passengers, resulting in heavy congestion and a general deterioration in the quality of service at airports.

"This is a warning flag that must not be ignored," says ACI Director General Robert J Aaronson, in a statement. "Although ACI members built new capacity at a record rate in 2004, spending over $31 billion, those efforts are simply not enough. Regulatory, political and environmental barriers to building new infrastructure could stifle the air transport industry, just as it returns to a vibrant pattern of growth after the worst slump in its history."

Airports remain closed in Gulf region as oil surges to new high

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport remained closed yesterday owing to storm damage and flood waters from Hurricane Katrina as US airlines continued to cancel flights into the Gulf Coast region, with many not expecting to resume service before Friday. An even bigger challenge for the carriers is the price of oil, which surged to more than $70 per barrel as refineries in the region shut down in the face of the storm. In Washington, Air Transport Assn. CEO James May supported the Bush Administration's endorsement of a release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. "We believe such a release will ease some of the upward pressure on prices that accelerated in the days leading up to the storm," May said in a statement, adding that this is "just a first step. It is now critical that the government act aggressively to provide much-needed assistance to restore refinery capacity damaged by Katrina, particularly since capacity was already extremely tight prior to the storm." Last week, ATA Chief Economist John Heimlich described the price of oil, which was then at $67.05 per barrel, as "crushing" and a potential "knockout blow" for some airlines. Based on yesterday's prices, the price per gal. of jet fuel is now up around $2.00.

Damage from Hurricane Katrina will affect airline operations in New Orleans and Gulfport-Biloxi at least through the end of this week. According to a statement on FAA's website, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is expected to resume commercial operations Friday. A reopening date for Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport has not been determined.
