Kuwait Airways flight delayed due to strike of Egyptian air controllers

CAIRO, May 10 (KUNA) -- The daily Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) flight from Cairo bound to Kuwait Tuesday was postponed until tomorrow because Egyptian air controllers were on a partial strike, a KAC official said.

"This confusion in air traffic is out of our control," the official told KUNA.

KAC "always sticks to its flights as scheduled and this delay costs it a lot of money," he added.

Passengers were taken to nearby hotels.

The official said this partial strike by Egyptian air control employees caused panic in air traffic in most Egyptian airports thus causing financial losses for carriers.

Egyptian air controllers had staged their partial strike in a bid to get more work benefits.

Minister of Aviation Ahmad Shafiq threatened to recruit foreign employees to replace the Egyptians.

He said this strike resulted in 600,000 dollars loss for today only. Overall losses exceeded 31 million dollars in the past 10 days. (end) kz.
