Air New Zealand is likely to buy nine Airbus A330 twin-engine jets worth 1.2 billion NZ (794 million US) dollars.

Quoting unnamed industry sources it said the airline would use the A330 to replace its nine Boeing 767-300 aircraft on medium to long-haul routes, the Dominion Post newspaper reported Thursday.

The newspaper said Boeing was offering the airline its 777 range and the smaller 7E7 but no other South Pacific airline flies the 777 and there was a four year wait for 7E7s.

Air New Zealand has already ordered 15 Airbus A320s to replace its aging Boeing 737s on mainly domestic routes.
